The materials management department at the South Western Railway (SWR) headquarters and two Hubli-based stores depots of the general stores depot and mechanical stores depot, have been certified for the ISO 9001-2008 Quality Management System.
Speaking on the awards ceremony, Mr Kuldeep Chaturvedi, General Manager, SWR, emphasised the need for streamlining systems and procedures across the Railways .
“We need to adopt cleaner products and cleaner technologies and SWR in the course of time should be seen as environment-friendly Railway,” he said .
He congratulated Mr R.K. Aherwar, Controller of Stores of SWR and his team of officials, for having maintained the quality control management as well as streamlining systems and procedures. He advised other departments to go in for such certification as done by the materials management department.
The award function was held at Railway Officers' Club, Hubli. On the occasion, certificates were presented to Mr Aherwar by Mr Nitish Maitra, General Manager of M/s ICS Ltd.
Earlier, welcoming the senior officials and officials from three divisions and workshops, Mr Aherwar, stated that ISO Certification enables the organisation to have a systematic approach to management, satisfy quality requirements and enhance customer satisfaction. He said it would lead to cost-effective supply of quality products.
Mr Nitish Maitra, General Manager, M/s ICS Ltd, shared his experience in the process of certification of three units of the materials management department of SWR.
Mr Amal Raj, Deputy Chief Materials Manager, general stores depot, Hubli, and Mr Chandan Kumar, Senior Material Manager, mechanical stores deport, Hubli, received ISO 9001-2008 Certificates for their respective depots. Mr N.C. Sihha, Chief Operations Manager, Mr Mohan A. Menon, Chief Personnel Officer, Ms Kalyani Gopal, Financial Advisor and Chief Accounts Officer, Mr J. Viswanathan, FA&CAO (General), Mr Shyamdhar Ram, Chief Workshop Manager, Hubli workshop, Mr G.K. Jalan, Deputy General Manager (General), SWR, Mr S.K. Gupta, secretary to General Manager, SWR, and Mr R. Baskaran, Chief Communication Engineer, Mr M. Sridhar, Assistant Materials Manager, material management information system (Headquarters), and other senior officials and staff, were present on the occasion.
