The much-awaited 27-km-long Nerul-Uran railway line is likely to become operational by 2015, one of the stake-holders in the ambitious project said today.

The Rs 1,412 crore Nerul-Belapur-Seawood-Uran railway line project was approved by the Ministry of Railways and the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) on the cost sharing basis in the ratio of 67:33 percentage respectively.

Total cost of project was put at Rs 495.49 crore in year 1996-97, however, the project cost escalated due to numerous expenditure incurred on the project and the estimates had to revised, a release by Cidco said.

During revision, new items, improved specifications and escalations were considered and the revised cost worked out at Rs 1412.17 crore and was approved by the Railways, it said.

The tripartite agreement between the Railways, Cidco and government of Maharashtra was executed on July 29, the release said, adding the revised cost of Rs 1412.17 crores was approved by Cidco and out of the approved cost, Cidco’s share stands at Rs 946 crore and Rs 466 crore for the Railways.

The project envisages setting up of ten stations along the 27-km route.

The stations to be set up are Seawoods, Sagarsanga (Kille), Targhar, Bamandongri, Kharkopar, Gavan, Ranjanpada, Nhava-Sheva, Dronagiri and Uran.

According to the release, four major bridges and five ROBs will be built on the stretch and the number of rakes will be 11 with nine cars each.
