Services of Nilgiris Mountain Railway from Mettupalayam to Udhgamandalam were cancelled today as a very big boulder fell on the track, between Hillgrove and Rannimedu.
The NMR, which started from Mettupalayam around 7.30 a.m. returned to the station, following the incident, much to the disappointment of the passengers, railway sources said.
Considering the size of the boulder, railways were planning to blast it into small pieces to clear the track, they said.
The evening service from Udhgamandalam to Mettupalayam was also cancelled.
