Air India plans to launch regular flights to Washington DC, Tel Aviv and Stockholm, the airline’s Chairman and Managing Director Ashwani Lohani said.

Without giving a time schedule as to when the flights will be launched, Lohani said the airline will receive 6 Boeing 787 aircraft in 2017 and three Boeing 777 the following year. The airline requires the aircraft to be able to launch the new flights.

The CMD was speaking at the re-launch of a new app which will allow passengers to book, check-in and manage every aspect of their journey from their mobile devices. The app has been created by SITA.

The new mobile service will be available on Android, iOS and Windows. At check-in, passengers can choose to receive their boarding pass on their phone or smartwatch, SITA said in a statement. Passengers will receive regular updates on their flights and can also use the app for mobile boarding.

Terming the app as a new “sales and distribution channel for Air India,” Maneesh Jaikrishna, SITA’s Vice-President for India and the Subcontinent, said: “SITA has worked alongside Air India over the past few years, supporting its passenger management and distribution at every step. This new app is an extension of that relationship.”
