Cochin Shipyard Ltd has delivered a 120T bollard pull Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessel (AHTS) — SCI Ahimsa — to the Shipping Corporation of India. This is the third of the series of four such vessels being built by the yard for SCI.

The protocol documents of the ship were signed by P. Vinayakumar, Director (Technical) on behalf of Cochin Shipyard and K. Devadas, Senior Vice-President (Technical & Offshore Services) on behalf of SCI on Tuesday.

These types of vessels are used as support vessels for various rig moving, anchor handling and other offshore supply functions. The shipyard is constructing three more offshore vessels for SCI.

It can accommodate 29 people and has all the capabilities of a Platform Supply Vessel, in addition to that of Anchor Handling Tug.

The vessel is certified under dual class by the rules and regulations of the American Bureau of Shipping and Indian Register of Shipping. The ship is registered under Indian flag with Mumbai as home port.

The 65.2 x 16 metre vessel is equipped with Rolls Royce Brattvaag Waterfall type anchor handling cum towing winch with a tested bollard pull of 120T capacity.

The vessel has Grade I dynamic positioning feature along with compliance to ERRV class ‘C’, which allows the vessel to work as an emergency rescue and recovery vessel in case of an oil field exigency.
