In September, the Eastern Railway loaded 5.270 million tonnes of revenue-earning freight traffic, up 16.67 per cent over 4.517 mt loaded in the same month of last year.
This was the best September loading performance, according to ER sources. The share of coal was the largest, 3.488 mt (3.079 mt), registering a growth of 13.28 per cent, largely due to better offerings of coal from both public and private sector coal companies. The other commodities accounted for 1.78 mt (1.44mt), or growth of 23.9 per cent.
Cumulatively, ER's first half (April- September ) loading posted 5.81 per cent growth at 9.852 mt (9.311 mt).The revenue earned during the period amounted to Rs 717.84 crore (Rs 687.5 crore) posting a growth of 4.41 per cent.
