Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL) has launched an initiative named ‘Konkan Railway Shiksha Abhiyan’ to impart computer education in villages along the routes under its jurisdiction.
It is aimed at families below the poverty line. Two mobile vans are used for the purpose.
KRCL is also providing tourist guide training to the local taxi and auto-rickshaw drivers to promote tourism to enable them to earn additional income.
The KRCL has developed an automatic coach washing plant, which is a multistage external cleaning system for coaches/trains. The plant is able to achieve complete exterior cleaning of a rake of 24 coaches in about 10 minutes’ time.
It has commissioned the plant at the Coach Care Centre, Madgaon in Goa, and at Dum-Dum (Noapara) car shed of Metro Railway, Kolkata. It can set up similar plants at various coach maintenance depots of Indian Railways.
Effluent treatment plant and water softening plant are also provided on demand, a KRCL spokesperson said.
