Thousands of commuters had a nightmarish experience this afternoon when Delhi Metro services were disrupted for nearly an hour on the busy Gurgaon line after trains stopped on tracks due to tripping of power supply.
Train services on the 45-km-line connecting Jehangirpuri with HUDA City Centre in Gurgaon were affected after trains did not get power from their source, leaving thousands of commuters stranded at several Metro stations. Line 2 is one of the longest corridors on the network.
“Services on Line 2 were affected because of the tripping of the power supply from the Gas Turbine Power Station of the Indraprastha power generation company,” DMRC spokesman, Mr Anuj Dayal, said.
The problem began around 3 pm when trains stopped on tracks on the predominantly underground corridor and persisted till around 4 p.m. DMRC officials said since the problem began with voltage fluctuation trains could be brought to the stations slowly. “No train was stranded inside a tunnel,” an official said.
Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat, two major interchange stations on the network, bore the maximum brunt with hundreds of passengers stranded on platforms and were seen pushing each other.
