The Kerala Government is thinking of raising the quantum of supply of kerosene through ration shops in the state.

This might start as early from next month, the Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, told newspersons here.

Families without power connections would be entitled to get four litres of kerosene at subsidised rates while others would get one litre.

The State Government had, meanwhile, requested the Centre for larger allocation of kerosene at subsidised rates, the Chief Minister said.

But the Centre was not willing to do this, and would instead charge market rates for the supplies. So the onus is now on the State Government to provide the subsidy for the fuel procured at market rates, the Chief Minister said.
