The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Monday, issued notice inviting applications for the electronic auction of 266 FM radio channels in 92 cities as part of the second batch of Private FM Phase III bidding.

“The second batch consists of 227 channels in 69 new cities besides 39 channels in 23 existing cities,” an official statement said.

The cities include Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Agartala, Kargil and Leh. “Out of the 69 new cities taken up for auction in the second batch, 20 cities with 80 channels are in cities with population of 3-10 lakh, 38 cities with 114 channels have population of 1-3 lakh whereas 11 cities with 33 channels in border areas of Jammu & Kashmir and North Eastern states with population of upto one lakh have also been included,” the statement added.

Applications are required to be submitted by August 1 and based on these the government will pre-qualify those who meet the eligibility criteria to participate in the auctions.
