BIG Animation Infotainment and Media School (AIMS), a Reliance Animation Training Academy, today announced its collaboration with Lovely Professional University (LPU) to offer courses in visual effects (VFX) and animation film-making.
This collaboration is taking place to address the growing requirement for skilled animation professionals. Animations are not just linked to children’s films any more. With blockbuster animated films, such as the Madagascar series and Kung Fu Panda, proving to be big money-spinners, the VFX and animation industry is fast becoming a lucrative destination for students.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by Mr Ashish S. Kulkarni, Chief Executive Officer of Reliance Animation, and Mr Ashok Mittal, Vice-Chancellor of LPU.
Under the MoU, the institutes will offer Bachelor of Science programme in digital animation film-making and digital VFX film-making. Further, BIG AIMS will offer short-term diploma and certificate courses in affiliation with LPU.
The courses will be available for students across India through authorised BIG AIMS learning centres. Mr Kulkarni said, “Reliance Animation felt the need for the right kind of curriculum in animation so that it isn’t seen as just vocational training and started BIG AIMS with that idea in mind”.
He added, “We needed a university partner to give the students the right mix of degrees, with exposure to latest software training.”
Mr Kulkarni also mentioned that animation has application in several industry verticals such as defence, architecture, medical sciences among others.
Talking about the collaboration with Reliance Animation’s BIG AIMS, Mr Mittal said educational institutes need to join hands with the industry since they are the ones that provide jobs to the students.
He added that in the first academic year 600 students would be enrolled for these courses and the fee structure for the courses would be in the range of Rs 7,000-10,000 per month.
