Spiritual guru Sri Satya Sai Baba passed away on Sunday morning at Puttaparthi in Anantapur district after he suffered from multi-organ failure.

The 85-year-old Sai Baba was admitted to a super specialty hospital at Puttaparthi 28 days ago for treatment.

His body would be kept for darshan of devotees at Sai Kulwant Hall for two days. Last rites would be held on Wednesday with State Honours.

Speculation and gossip marked one month of his hospital stay, with people raising doubts and concern over his falling health condition. Alleged misappropriation of the huge financial resources of the Satya Sai Trust too had become a subject of discussion.

The Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Mr E.S.L. Narasimhan; the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy; the Opposition leader, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, rushed to Puttaparthi on Sunday morning after news on his demise was made public.

With the end in sight, the State Government had begun to make security arrangements by deploying huge posse of forces in the last few days, barricading the roads and closing down the shops in Puttaparthi on Sunday anticipating sudden rush of devotees.
