India received a lot of interest from a host of countries for the yet to be launched Brahmos air missile at the Dubai Air Show.

Speaking to BusinessLine at the show, Praveen Pathak, General Manager, Brahmos, said apart from the Defence Minister of Khazakistan, delegations from Brazil, Indonesia and several other countries visited the Brahmos stall at the show.

Brahmos officials declined to list the 14 countries which have shown interest in the missiles for strategic and commercial reasons. This is the first time that Brahmos is participating at the Dubai Air Show although the company has participated in shows in other parts of the world.

“By the year-end we will finish all the tests (for the air version of the Brahmos missile). With this we will complete the air, land and sea version of the missile. This will be one system which will there for all,” he said.

Brahmos was one of the few Indian companies which were visible at the Dubai Air Show, which was attended by over 150 companies from the fields of civil aviation and defence across the globe.

Brahmos was formed as a joint venture between the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Joint Stock Company, Military Industrial Consortium, Russia. The company was established in India through an Inter-Governmental Agreement in 1988 signed between India and Russia.

The company is responsible for designing, producing and marketing Brahmos supersonic cruise missiles with the active participation of a consortium of Indian and Russian industries.
