Senior Karnataka BJP leader and former union minister Basanagouda Patil Yatnal has alleged that the ruling party is involved in another scam similar to the Valmiki Corporation ‘scandal.’ The new controversy revolves around the allocation of ₹600 crore to the Karnataka State Habitat Centre in Bengaluru.
The organisation, which is authorised to execute projects under the leadership of Minister Zameer Ahmed, apparently lacks constitutional recognition and violates the Karnataka State Transparency Act.
Yatnal posted on social media platform X: “This Habitat Centre is neither a government entity nor are its employees government officials; the entire set-up is an illusion. Additionally, funds have been transferred to this Habitat Centre from the Kalyana Karnataka Development Board.”
He also accused the organisation of undertaking projects for the Minority Welfare Department and indicated possible collusion between the Minister and officials.
“Since the irregularities in the Valmiki Corporation were exposed, Minister Zameer has been conducting daily meetings at this Habitat Centre to cover up something,” he said.
‘Proof’ sought’
However, the ruling Congress party in the State strongly refuted the allegations. “What proof does Basanagouda Patil have regarding this? Please ask him to present the documents indicating the same,” said a Congress spokesperson speaking to businessline.
Meanwhile Karnataka BJP President and MLA BY Vijayendra said that BJP MLAs and upper house members will stage an overnight sit-in in the State assembly and legislative council since they were not allowed to discuss the MUDA scam in the Assembly.
Addressing a press conference at the Vidhansouda BJP office today, he said, “We will not let injustice happen to Dalits; 14 plots given by Muda in Mysuru to the CM’s family should be returned. After coming to power, this government has allotted more than 5,000 plots.”
He demanded that the allotment should be cancelled. Vijayendra also mentioned the ‘Valmiki scam’, alleging that the Congress party had looted ₹187 crore that belongs to the Dalit community.
