When 11-year-old Anindu plays games on the computer or the TV using controller and no-controller gaming devices, his 45-year-old mother is puzzled how these children can quickly grasp those complex operations.

Microsoft says people, regardless of their age and understanding of technology, can play by just gesturing with their hands, legs and head. Also, they can quickly select from a variety of entertainment options in television, Internet and video library.

“Controllers have always puzzled some people. Now they can forget about that hassle. They can watch TV and video, play games and browse Internet as we converge technologies. We are offering entertainment options in the living rooms,” Mr Amit Chatterjee, Managing Director of Microsoft India (Research and Development) Private Ltd, said citing the example of Xbox Kinetic.

“We have sold 80 lakh units of Xbox Kinetic globally in a few weeks after its launch. It is not just a gaming platform,” he said.

With regard to Microsoft's Windows 7 phone, he said the product might be introduced in India in the next few months. He, however, has not answered on the specific plan for release and the price point. “The phone has been received well with 20,000 developers from across the globe working on applications. There are about 7,000 applications,” he said.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Chatterjee, who has taken over as the MD after Mr Srini Koppolu quit the post two months ago, said the IDC centre focussed on Office Mobile applications and Bing (the search platform).

“We would like to position Bing as a decision engine and not just the search engine,” he said.
