NIIT has introduced the NIIT NGuru Math Lab and NIIT MindChampions' Academy at the Sabarigiri Residential School, Anchal, in Kollam district.

Mr Baby John, Minister for Labour, inaugurated the NIIT NGuru Math Lab at a function held at Anchal on Wednesday. Also present on the occasion were Mr P. Rajendran, Chief Operating Officer, NIIT; Ms Lida Jacob, Chairperson, Commission on Right to Education; and Dr V. K. Jayakumar, Chairman, Sabarigiri Group of Schools.

The NGuru Math Lab enables school students to learn and explore mathematical concepts and verify mathematical facts and theorems using multiple teaching and learning aids.

NIIT MindChampions' Academy encourages students to take up chess to aid development of young minds. Studies have shown that chess improves faculties of concentration and diligence, helping students perform better academically.

NIIT NGuru Math Lab endeavours to bring back the joy of learning by making the present curriculum of math interesting and interactive through use of innovative ICT enabled teaching and learning solutions, Mr Rajendran said.

According to Dr Jayakumar, the education system would now make a 360-degree shift from learning mathematics by obedience to learning it by applied reasoning.

The NIIT MindChampions' Academy is a joint initiative by Grand Master Viswanathan Anand and NIIT. Established in 2002, the academy has fostered over 11,000 chess clubs with more than one million students as its members in schools across India.
