A mobile handset is purchased every five minutes and a laptop is bought every 27 minutes on online marketplace eBay India.

These findings are part of a new report by eBay India that analysed online purchases of gadgets using its website between July 1, 2010, and June 30, 2011.

“On an average day on eBay India, a portable storage device or pendrive sells every four minutes, while a mobile handset sells every five minutes...,” eBay India said today.

The report, titled, ‘eBay Battle of the Gadgets’, revealed that a laptop sells every 27 minutes, a MP3 player sells every 28 minutes, a digital camera sells every 39 minutes and a video game console sells every 39 minutes.

When it came to cities, Delhi saw the most gadget purchases, followed by Bengaluru and Mumbai.

According to eBay India, Sony is the most popular gadget brand. At second place is Nokia, followed by Samsung, Apple and Seagate.

The report said that Dell is the most popular laptop brand.

“Nokia has emerged as the most popular brand in the mobile phones category, while Micromax and HTC take the second and third positions, respectively,” eBay India said in a statement.

eBay India Country Manager Mr B Muralikrishnan said that as much as 50 per cent of all transactions on the site are in the electronics category.

“We see a great demand for gadgets from consumers across both metros and Tier-II and III cities,” he said.
