Bharti Airtel will slash internet broadband rates by up to 30 per cent for new activations and offer a slew of benefits such as higher speed and free additional data, starting Tuesday. The offers are under a new scheme, called ‘Airtel Surprises'.
“This is in line with the larger ‘Digital India’ initiative and follows our recent launch of free voice calling, which has done exceptionally well. Along with this, we are offering free anti-virus and a Wi-Fi router,” said Ashok Ganapathy, Hub Chief Executive Officer (Mumbai, Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat).
For existing customers, the company will provide additional benefits of data or speed, he added.
Airtel, which was the first to introduce broadband services in India in the mid-1990s, is rolling out the scheme across 15 circles or 100 towns where it has Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) operations. DSL is a technology to transfer digital signals over standard telephone lines. The company will offer speeds up to 16 mbps for its home broadband customers under several plans ranging from ₹599 to ₹1,599.
“We have a contention ratio of 1:1, which means we deliver speeds that we promise. This will bring in more customers, resulting in better revenues,” he added.
4G home Wi-Fi Bharti Airtel on Monday launched 4G Home Wi-Fi (broadband services on Wi-Fi) in Mumbai. This follows the company's commercial launch of 4G services last week across 296 towns.
This will offer high-speed internet over 4G technology on a device, which can connect up to 32 points at the same time, at ₹2,500. The service is targeted at Small Office Home Office (SOHO) and home customers, with rental plans starting at ₹995 (10GB).
