If its Women’s Day, can a Google doodle be far behind?
This year, the doodle is a video and includes women from around the world. The women so represented also include famous personalities like Mary Kom, Asha Bhonsle and Malala Yousafzai.
Although March 8 is celebrated as Women’s Day, the doodle has been released a day ahead (on March 7).
In 2013, there was no doodle on the India homepage last year. But the one released globally had the face of 27 women across different ethnicities and nationalities. The logo appeared in the gaps between the faces.
This year’s doodle is a playable one. The “play” button is featured in the letter ‘O’ of the Google logo. The ‘O’ is made to look like the Venus symbol for women – a small circle with a cross below it.
The Google logo in turn is surrounded by more such Venus symbols.
Once a user hits the play button, a YouTube video opens up. It shows different women from all walks of life wishing “Happy International Women Day”.
The video features background music by Belgian artiste Marie Daulne, popularly known by her screen name Zap Mama.
The video ends with the message, “Happy International Women’s Day”.
