VVDN Technologies, an original design manufacturer, in association with tech firm Embedded Downloads, has announced the launch of ‘BitVault’, what the firms claim to be the world’s first crypto communicator and blockchain-based Smartphone.
This smartphone uses blockchain technology to address the changing needs of financial institutions, government agencies, defence/police, logistic firms, cyber security companies and any business/individual who needs a private communications network, said Vivek Bansal co-founder and Vice-President - Engineering, VVDN Technologies.
Talks are also on with defence services to see if the phone could be utilised for secure communication.
As it is a blockchain smartphone, safety is its unique selling proposition, according to Vivek. BitVault is made in India, he said.
The phone is Third Party Independent Multilayer Security (3IMS)-enabled by fingerprint recognition and iris scan. All the key functions such as voice calling, video calling, messaging and document sharing are protected with private blockchain.
BitVault also offers 5 bitcoin wallets.
It has a default application store for new blockchain and cryptocurrency apps. Current mobile applications will not work on BitVault nor will any BitVault application work on any other device.
Hein Marais, founder and CEO, Embedded Downloads, UK, said: “BitVault uses primary blockchain technology for its functions. Thus a secure call is not from a phone number to a phone number, but from a public key on the blockchain to another public key on a blockchain. Similarly, a message is not to an email address but from a key to a key. BitVault thus forms its own closed ecosystem, creating a secure communication environment not accessible to outside devices.”
