Gearing up to launch 4G services in the country, Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL) has put in place a paperless subscriber verification process linked to Aadhaar card.

At present, subscribers are required to submit copies of residence proof if they want to get a mobile connection.

RJIL, the wireless arm of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), is also in the process of signing agreements with various State and local authorities to provide Wi-Fi services, the company said in a statement.

RJIL plans to provide 4G services using Long Term Evolution (LTE) in the 800 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2300 MHz bands. However, the company did not disclose its proposed launch date. RJIL is also working with strategic partners with resources, knowhow and talent to support deployment and testing activities, it said.

DoT clearance

The Department of Telecommunications had earlier allotted Mobile Switching Centre Code, Mobile Country Code and Mobile Network Code to RJIL. It had also allocated signalling point codes for National Long Distance (NLD) and International Long Distance (ILD) services and clearances to set up international Internet gateways.

The company said it has made “significant progress” in building LTE business, including network, systems and processes, distribution and content. RJIL is also working with strategic partners with knowhow and resources for the rollout, it added. In spectrum auctions in March, RJIL has acquired spectrum in 13 key circles across India for a total of about ₹10,077 crore. The company has spectrum in either 800 MHz or 1,800 MHz or both across 20 of the total 22 circles in the country, apart from 2,300 MHz spectrum across all the 22 circles in the country.
