In a reversal of the sluggish trend witnessed in the previous month, hiring activities surged across all sectors in November due to a “seasonal spike” in recruitment, according to a report.

Job portal Naukri.com today said most industries ramped up their recruitment activities last month following the festive season lull.

However, the portal cautioned that it remains to be seen whether this trend is sustained or is just a temporary surge.

The monthly Naukri Job Speak index — an indicator of online job demand — showed that hiring activities moved up across all sectors last month in comparison to October, signalling a “seasonal spike“.

Meanwhile, the three-month moving average index indicates a more stable scenario.

“The index bounced back sharply in November after hitting a 12-month seasonal low in October due to the festival season.

It remains to be seen whether this bounceback sustains or is just a temporary surge as companies make up for the lack of hiring in October,” the Info Edge CEO and MD, Mr Hitesh Oberoi, said in a statement.

Hiring activity in the construction, auto and banking sectors was similar to September 2011, but was 20 per cent, 34 per cent and 21 per cent higher than in October 2011.

“The IT-software, BPO and telecom sectors, on the other hand, exhibited strong hiring trends, with the job speak indices moving up 29 per cent, 18 per cent and 14 per cent in November over October,” the statement said.

On a monthly basis, demand for professionals in production and software services climbed 30 per cent.

“The demand for professionals in sales, accounts and HR moved up 35 per cent, 31 per cent and 22 per cent, respectively, over the same time period,” it added.

In terms of cities, Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore witnessed hiring activities jump by 39 per cent, 37 per cent and 31 per cent, respectively, in November in comparison to the previous month.
