Tablet maker WishTel expects to win more than two lakh students by December 2013 with its PrithV platform, which would be launched this January.

This follows a successful completion of pilot phases in three schools across Maharashtra’s remote Konkan villages.

Linux-based platform

PrithV is a Linux-based educational platform that is being rolled out on WishTel’s, a competitor to Aakash, tablets and netbooks.

The platform has educational content ranging from pre-primary classes to standard XII and for higher education such as medicine and engineering.

The content is available on subscription basis and is priced lower than the physical versions.

“Now, it’s the time to revolutionise the entire educational delivery system. Today, education need not be restricted to the textbook method of learning, and it should be extended to Internet. For example, Wikipedia offers a huge educational content…,” said WishTel Chief Executive Officer Milind Shah.

PrithV is being launched in 85 global languages – including English, Spanish, French and German – and 23 Indian languages.

It was developed in association with the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education.

VIRTUAL LAB

The platform has a virtual laboratory that simulatesexperiment on physics, chemistry or biology, and permitting students to conduct virtual surgeries or make robots (robotics kits).

It also has content on astronomy and anthropology among others.

“The concepts on surgery and robotics are better understood on simulation,” Shah said.

The company is not looking at reducing prices of any of its models, now priced at between Rs 3,500-12,500, but is adding features and increasing capacities (both storage and processor).
