The financial world is filled with many zoological words derived from animals and their behaviour. For example, we have a bear market, bull market and deer market.
A bear hibernates, so if the market is on a slide, it might not be the right time to invest. The bull represents aggression and growth, and the market is expected to be hard to control and heading up.
A deer market is a flat or neutral market doing nothing. The market is not trending in any real direction and it just freezes like a deer caught in the headlights.
A deer market is represented by investors unwilling to make any move.
Also called a sideways market, it is characterised by low trading volumes, minimum fluctuation and timid investors, who wait for information, such as earnings reports.
