Several tea varieties, especially in the CTC dust and leaf category, witnessed some withdrawals due to low or no bids at the Kochi auctions this week.

Good liquoring and popular marks tea in CTC dust were steady to firm and sometimes dearer. However, others were irregular and lower by ₹5 to ₹7 and sometimes more, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.

In sale no 19, the quantity on offer in CTC was 12,69,500 kg and there was some active participation from leading blenders. In orthodox grades, the market for primary grades was firm to dearer, while others were irregular and lower. The quantity on offer was 7,000 kg. Exporters continued to be the mainstay.

In the Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹113-148, mediums quoted ₹90-126 and plain stood at ₹76-90. The declining price trend was visible there in the leaf category also as well and the market for Nilgiri brokens and whole leaf in orthodox grades was lower by ₹10 to ₹15.
