The small cardamom gained marginally in recent days following drop in arrivals amid good buying interest at auctions held in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Total arrivals dropped to 593 tonnes last week from 708 tonnes the previous week.

As a result, individual auction average has moved up to ₹881.17 last week from ₹857.88 a kg. At the auction held today in Bodinayakannur by Cardamom Planters Association (CPA) Santhanpara 26 tonnes arrived and of this 24 tonnes were traded. The maximum price was at ₹1,020 a kg while the auction average stood at ₹861.14 a kg.

Exporters were active and said to have bought an estimated 120 tonnes, he said.

The individual auction average vacillated between ₹864 a kg and ₹919 a kg last week.

Total arrivals during the current season as on December 9 were at 11,161 tonnes and sales were at 10,929 tonnes. The individual auction average of the season was at Rs964.32 a kg.

The prices of graded varieties today at Bodinayakannur in ₹/Kg : 8mm green bold Rs 1,130-1,040; 7 - 8 mm : 930-940 ; 6-7 mm 890. Good bulk was being traded at ₹925 a kg.
