Spot turmeric prices in Erode markets dropped due to heavy arrivals on Wednesday.
“ Traders are buying turmeric though they have not yet received any upcountry demand. They quoted lower price and purchased 4,000 bags against the arrival of 7,700 bags. All Salem Turmeric and New turmeric varieties were sold,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger variety old turmeric was sold at ₹5,729-8,359 a quintal and the root variety ₹5,469-7,594.
New turmeric: The finger variety went for ₹6,338-8,489; the root variety ₹6,311-7,311. Of the 1,525 bags that arrived, 690 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric traded at ₹7,181-8,230; the root turmeric ₹6,691-7,771. Of the 1,100 bags on sale, 800 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,099-8,299 and the root variety ₹6,799-7,699. Of the 1,716 bags put up for sale, 1,440 were sold.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹7,109-8,469; the root variety ₹6,669-7,779. All the 304 bags found takers.
