Tracking a firm global trend, silver prices rose Rs 280 to Rs 39,987 per kg at the futures trade as speculators engaged in raising bets.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in March jumped by Rs 280 or 0.71 per cent to Rs 39,987 per kg in a business turnover of 414 lots. The white metal for delivery in May was trading higher by Rs 242 or 0.6 per cent at Rs 40,465 per kg in three lots.
Analysts said participants raised their bets due to a firm global trend as the dollar's weakness boosted the demand for precious metals as a safe-haven. In the international market, silver rose 0.29 per cent to $17.58 an ounce in Singapore.
