Asian Paints, which began the day on a firm note, rallied sharply to hold gains of 6.28 per cent on the NSE near the close on Thursday. At 3.15 pm it was trading at Rs 820.15 as against Rs 771.70 at close yesterday.
DLF also made rapid strides during the latter half of the day to notch up gains of 6.17 per cent at Rs 142.90. The share had ended the overnight session at Rs 134.60.
The Sensex and the Nifty, meanwhile, soared on value buying of Indian shares, besides positive US jobs data and news that the global oil price slide had halted. The benchmark BSE Sensex was trading higher by nearly 360 points at over 27,250 and the NSE index Nifty was trading up more than 100 points at over 8,200.
Kotak Mahindra Bank extended its recent firm trend to hold gains of 5.42 per cent near the close. It was trading at Rs 1,340.45 as against Rs 1,271.50 at close yesterday.
Jindal Steel also spiked up 5.05 per cent to trade at Rs 157.95. The share had closed Wednesday’s session at Rs 150.35.
Cairn India built on its morning gains to trade at Rs 241.35. This represented a gain of 4.87 per cent on its overnight close at Rs 230.15.
