Metal shares Hindalco Industries and Vedanta held on to their firm undertone to stay ahead of the pack on the NSE as well. At 3.19 pm Vedanta was the top gainer, trading at Rs 183, up 3.36 per cent on its previous close at Rs 177.05.
Hindalco Industries was firm but off its morning levels. It had trimmed its gains to 1.61 per cent at Rs 120.10 as against Rs 118.20 at close yesterday.
ICICI Bank edged up further to hold gains of 1.48 per cent at Rs 287.35 against Rs 283.15 at close on Monday.
Ambuja Cement made rapid strides to hold gains of 1.12 per cent at Rs 225.55 against Rs 223.05 at close yesterday.
Tata Power charged up 1.12 per cent at Rs 72.2 against Rs 71.4 at close overnight.
