Reliance Industries has sold 85 lakh shares of Asian Paints in a block deal at ₹2,207 apiece for a total amount of ₹1,876 crore, according to exchange data.
The entire lot was picked up by ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund.
Last Friday, RIL had sold 3.5 crore shares of the paint company through block deals at ₹2,201 per share, leaving it with a balance holding of 87 lakh shares.
With the stake sale today, RIL will be holding around 2 lakh shares of Asian Paints.
Last week, the stake had been acquired by SBI MF.
The conglomerate had acquired the stake in Asian Paints back in January 2008, picking up a small stake for ₹500 crore. Asian Paints is one of the leading paint makers in the industry and RIL had acquired the stake at the time of the global financial crisis.
Shares of RIL ended 0.6 per cent higher at ₹1,436.90 on the NSE, while that of Asian Paints closed 1.2 per cent higher at ₹2,241.
