The person suspected to be Bitti Mohanty has been serving the Madayi branch of SBT in North Kerala.
Kerala police has not confirmed the identity of fugitive rapist.
Counterpart officers from Rajasthan and Odisha are expected to arrive here and do it.
But the arrested person, who had conned employers and colleagues into accepting him as Raghav Rajan from Andhra Pradesh, is reported to have admitted his identity as Bitti.
He was arrested on charges of impersonation, forgery and cheating.
He was produced before a magistrate and remanded to police custody for two weeks.
The arrest was made on Friday night after SBT wrote to the police headquarters after being alerted by an anonymous caller about the identity of ‘Raghav Rajan.’
The caller had cited striking resemblance the latter had with Bitti’s photograph posted on the Internet among the list of rapists in the wake of Delhi gangrape.
Bitty is son of former Odisha director-general of police B.B. Mohanty and was serving a seven-year sentence in Rajasthan for raping a German national in 2006.
Convicted by a Rajasthan court, Bitti was reported missing since his release on parole on November 20, 2006.
