The Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Petroleum Dealers’ Association has requested the customers to use more of debit and credit cards at retail outlets of oil marketing companies.
Addressing presspersons in Mangaluru on Tuesday, Muralidhar Prabhu, vice-president of the association, said that though the retail outlets are accepting ₹500 and ₹1,000 currency notes as per the government directive, there were instances of skirmishes between customers and the outlet operators following the latter’s inability to return the cash in smaller denominations in some cases.
Some customers tender ₹2,000 note for petrol worth ₹100 and seek remaining amount in cash. Stating that even the petroleum product dealers also get limited amount of smaller denomination notes just like the common man, Prabhu said they have to manage with the available notes of smaller denomination.
It will be better if the customers use more of debit and credit cards for the refill at retail outlets, he said.
The districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have around 260 retail outlets.
