Catholic Syrian Bank is close to completing recruitment of 100 clerks and 230 officers.

The exercise which began in March is nearing completion.

The bank had indicated that it was looking to hire 100 clerks and 230 probationary officers in early March.

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection conducted the exam. Of the 35,000 applicants for the 300+ vacancy, around 4,000 are said to have cleared the test conducted by IBPS.

Those that appeared for the post of clerks and cleared the objective test conducted by the IBPS have since joined the bank.

But for the post of POs, the bank has set some systems and procedures in place. "Based on the marks scored in the IBPS exam, we invited the candidates for a preliminary interview and a written test. Those that qualified in the written test were called for a final interview," the bank’s Chief Executive Mr V.P. Iswardas, told Business Line .

Interview for the officers’ cadre is under way and is expected to be over within the next fortnight. "We will be placing 230 officers at branches both in Kerala and outside. Selection for the Kerala branches is over; the selected candidates will be joining the bank next week; by mid-July, the final screening of candidates for chosen branches outside Kerala will also be over," Mr Iswardas said.

Besides these appointments, the bank has also recruited 25 marketing specialists off-campus and an equal number of qualified chartered and cost accountants this year.

"The response has been positive, but opportunities also are huge," Mr Iswardas said, when asked how many candidates honoured the offer letter and eventually joined the bank.
