Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday said that artisans should find expression for their work in public spaces.

He was addressing a roundtable on ‘Public Art in Delhi’ to bring artists, urban designers, city planners, architects and government representatives on the same platform and to take their suggestions on the subject.

He said, “Expressions of work in public spaces not only beautifies the city but also captures its soul. More importantly, it will enhance the aesthetic of public spaces and raise the stature of the city in the eyes of the visitors and have great potential to boost tourism.”

“The intention today is to have an interactive session. This is not intended as a one off meeting but one designed to commence an interactive process. Besides celebrating the nation’s cultural diversity, public art should aesthetically celebrate the country’s rich cultural heritage with national, regional and local themes,” Puri added.

To encourage Art Work with Public Projects, Delhi Urban Art Commission has come up with guidelines on ‘Public Art in Delhi’.

“We need to tap this vast potential to beautify Delhi and carry the movement forward to other cities and towns of the country,” said Puri.
