Defence Ministry has agreed to part with defence land in Bengaluru city to facilitate implementation of several pending infrastructure works.

The land swap was agreed upon by Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at a meeting held in Bengaluru on Saturday.

The swap is likely to help ease traffic movement around the Bengaluru city with the help of BBMP several projects like road widening, flyovers, elevated corridors etc are to be accommodated.

At the meeting, both Karnataka government and Defence Ministry agreed to facilitate completion of 10 projects, Of which eight projects require land on permanent basis will be transferred to civic body (BBMP) against exchange of equal value of land by the state government. The other two projects, permission to use the land to build ROB projects, will be granted on license basis.

In return, the state government has affirmed its commitment to provide land of equal value as per the Defence Ministry guidelines and has agreed to transfer 209.8 acre land in and around Bengaluru in three locations. Implementation of the said 10 projects will provide considerable ease to the traffic congestion in the project areas.

According to Defence Ministry, it will be formally communicating the grant of working permission in all these 10 cases, shortly.

Since the citizens are the main beneficiaries of these projects, Ministry as well as Karnataka government has expressed immense satisfaction over the discussion and mutually beneficial conclusion to this long standing discourse.

The state government and defence ministry has also agreed to constitute a joint task force of state government officials and ministry of defence officials to resolve all outstanding issues amicably and expeditiously.
