More than 125 firms flocked to the IIM Ahmedabad campus this year to recruit from the batch of 378 final-year PGP students. The final placements process, which started on February 9 at the B-school, was wrapped up on Sunday.

This year, Accenture Strategy was the top recruiter at IIM-A with 18 offers. Boston Consulting Group extended 15 offers while A.T. Kearney, Bain & Company and McKinsey & Co. made seven offers each.

In the niche consulting domain, EXL was the highest recruiter with eight offers. Among global investment banks, HSBC recruited nine students for investment banking, corporate banking and private banking profiles.

In the consumer goods and services sector, Hindustan Unilever and Star TV India were the leading recruiters, offering six roles each in their marketing and corporate executive departments.

Reliance Industries offered eight roles in general management. In the technology sector, Amazon was the largest recruiter, with 15 offers for business development and operations roles. Latent View and Samsung extended seven offers to students for data analytics and business development roles.

The process was conducted in two stages – laterals and cohorts. About 50 per cent of the batch was eligible for lateral placements, under which students with work experience are interviewed and offered mid-level managerial positions. Some of the firms that recruited during laterals were the Aditya Birla Group, Amazon, Google, Infosysand Microsoft.

Under the cohorts system, clusters of companies who offer similar profiles are invited. The first cluster was invited on February 9, the second February 16 and the final one on February 23.

Thirteen students have opted out of placements this year to start their own ventures. The business school offers a placement holiday to these students wherein they will be allowed to participate in placements in the next two years if their ventures do not take off.

The institute will release details about the pay packages offered to students after six months in an audit report, according to the Indian Placement Reporting Standards introduced by IIM-A.

The median salary last year was ₹16.4 lakh.
