More than 120 alumni of the Booth School of Business, University of Chicago, are meeting at a luxury resort in the historic coastal town of Mahabalipuram near here. The 6th edition of the annual Pan-India Booth Alumni Retreat (PIBAR) began today and goes on for two days.

It is not just catching up with classmates and networking. The two-day “corporate-style retreat” has sessions from alumni who are entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and corporate executives, discussing topics of current interest. The earlier editions of the PIBAR were held in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Goa.

The invitees

Madhav V Rajan, who took over as Dean of Booth School in July, will deliver the keynote address. The alumni, he said, have done a phenomenal job of putting together the event and scaling it every year. “Now it has become bigger and better.”

Much networking happens, and panellists are invited from industry for discussions. “You know how MBAs are. They invest in each other’s ideas. They are each other’s advisers, board of directors. They seem a very cohesive group,” said Rajan of the Booth alumni network.

According to Akshay Sethi, President, Chicago Booth Alumni Club of India, the annual retreat is meant to help the alumni to get insights into current topics of interest and best-in-class business practices.

Each year, the PIBAR discusses how to continue to strengthen the alumni network, build the Chicago brand, and attract top MBA talent to Booth, he added.
