Citi group was the top recruiter at IIT Madras by providing offers to 25 students even as placement season for 2017–18 came to an end at the institution on a high note. The total number of students placed in 2017–18 academic year was 832, which accounts for about 70 per cent of total number of registered students.

Intel India Technology with 20 offers, EXL Services (19), Flipkart (18) and HCL Technologies (17) completed the list of top five recruiters. Nearly 45 per cent of the placements were in core engineering and R&D companies while 28 per cent were in analytics/consulting/finance and 22 per cent in IT.

In 2017–18, a total of 256 companies, including 19 international, had registered for placements with 968 students receiving offers as against 817 in the previous year. A total of 38 start ups from various sectors, including IT, analytics, this year made a total of 101 offers of which 83 were accepted.

Postgraduates, research scholars placements was on the rise, indicating industry preference to recruit IIT-M students for ‘cutting-edge R&D,’ says a release from the institute.

As many as 95 students were placed through Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) in 2017-18. A total of 114 PPOs were made as against 73 in the preceding year, an increase of 56 per cent, with several offers from large firms such as Microsoft, Qualcomm and Goldman Sachs.

Manu Santhanam, Advisor, Training and Placement, IIT-Madras, in the release said, the overall placement scenario was also better thanks to interest shown by recruiters in the high quality technical talent available at IIT Madras, which retained its No. 1 National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking this year.
