Of all the aspects for successful management, motivation takes the driving seat. It is undoubtedly the maha mantra, says H.V. Madan, business and HR consultant.

Proper motivation, be it to self or team would contribute to a great business performance, he said while delivering the BL Club Lecture at the Nalla Narasimha Reddy Engineering College, Ghatkesar. The lecture series is sponsored by the State Bank of Hyderabad.

“For any task we take up, any job we do, there must be a motive. The general desire or willingness to do something. Once accomplished, one derives a sense of achievement,” he explained to students in the talk titled “Motivational Skills”.

While self-motivation has its own dynamics, motivating others need enormous strength by virtue of knowledge, understanding, emotion and empathy which in turn needs some special skills —motivational skills, said Madan, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Nutreat.

As students, the need for motivational skills is confined to behavioural excellence and academic performance, he said. As the student gets into a career mode, the application of motivational skills shifts focus to confidence building zone. At this stage, only those with leadership qualities try to understand the situation around them, adapt to those conditions and also help others to move along.

On one hand, motivational skills help in team building by way of identifying individual strengths, defining the tasks, setting effective goals, monitoring progress, enhance productivity to finally getting the right rewards and recognition. It also helps in setting a robust and successful business environment.
