The Bharatiya Janata Party came out all guns blazing as it took on Priyanka Gandhi Vadra after she compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ‘Duryodhana’ from the Hindu mythological text Mahabharata.

The charge was led by party President Amit Shah, who said the election results, on May 23, will decide as to ‘who is Duryodhana and who is Arjun’.

Speaking at a rally in Belda (West Midnapore district), some 170 km from Kolkata, the BJP chief pointed out that Congress’ frustration is for all to see. No amount of insults can change the mind of the Indian voter, who wants Modi to come back to power for a second term, he said.

“Priyankaji just called PM Modi ‘Duryodhana’. Priyankaji, this is democracy, nobody becomes ‘Duryodhana’ just because you called them so. The result of the Lok Sabha election on May 23 will teach a lesson to her,” Shah said.

His retort came hours after Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, at a rally in Ambala, in Haryana accused the Prime Minister of being arrogant like Duryodhana and that this would lead to his (Modi’s) downfall in the Lok Sabha election.

“The BJP is not afraid of their (Congress’) jibes. We will counter it,” Shah said, adding that the Prime Minister has been “abused” on 51 different occasions by the Congress and its leaders.

“I vouch for this when I say that corruption took place at the time of Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure,” he said before listing out issues like release of the Bhopal Gas tragedy accused and Bofors scam as failures of Rajiv Gandhi.
