A fire broke out at a multi-storey office building in the city’s central business district this morning and firemen are on the site to control it.
Smoke was seen billowing out from the third floor of the nearly century-old sprawling Gillander House and four fire tenders were rushed to the spot to control the blaze, fire officials said.
The building on the busy Netaji Subhas Road, which houses the eastern region headquarters of a major private bank, was vacated and there was no immediate report of any injury or casualties in the incident, they said.
The reason for the blaze is yet to be ascertained.
