Overall, 66% votes polled in phase-II

In the second phase of Lok Sabha elections in 12 States and one Union Territory passed off peacefully barring sporadic incidents. There was an overall interim voter turnout of 66 per cent as compared with 69.24 per cent in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the Election Commission said on Thursday.

In the second phase, 10 seats in Maharashtra, five each in Assam and Odisha, three in Chhattisgarh and two in Jammu and Kashmir went to the polls.

West Bengal reported the highest interim voter turnout of 76.07 per cent while Jammu and Kashmir reported the lowest at 43.3 per cent.

In Tamil Nadu it was 72 per cent as against 73.5 per cent recorded during the 2014 polls. The State saw simultaneous polls for 38 of the 39 Lok Sabha seats and by-elections to 18 Assembly constituencies.

Neighbouring Karnataka reported 61.84 per cent voting for 14 Parliamentary seats which went to the polls in the second phase. Puducherry reported 78 per cent (82.1 per cent) for its lone Parliamentary constituency.

Manipur reported an interim voter turnout of 74.3 per cent (75.16 per cent in 2014). In Bihar, for the seats that went to the polls in the second phase, 62.52 per cent (61.93 per cent) was recorded and in Maharashtra it was 62 per cent (62.64 per cent).

The Election Commission said that it had added 1.16 crore voters to the voting list in the recent past.

Total seizures

Total seizures till 6 pm on Thursday stood at ₹2,632.73 crore, including cash worth ₹697 crore, drugs and narcotics worth ₹1,151 crore and precious metals worth ₹512 crore.

Ministers in fray

Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and Union Ministers, including Pon Radhakrishnan, Minister of State for Finance; Jitendra Singh, Minister of State, Prime Ministers Office; and the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Abdullah were in the fray in the second phase of the elections.
