Faced with the onslaught of competition from online retailers, brick and mortar retailers under the aegis of the Confederation of All India Traders will be holding a nationwide dharna on October 31 seeking investigation against online retailers business practises.
CAIT said it will also press for a regulatory authority for retail. CAIT said it will also convene a meeting of brand in FMCG, electronics, IT, mobiles, watches, footwear, spectacles, luggage and apparels to discuss the issue of online retailers of offering huge discounts.
“We have sent invitations to prominent companies in different segments whose brands are being sold on online portals at a much lower price than offline market. Now, it is for them to respond to our call since their brand image and business is also getting affected,” Praveen Khandelwal, National Secretary General, CAIT said in a statement.
The dharna will be staged across various states in India.
CAIT had written to Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to look into the working and business model of e-commerce companies. The Ministry, on its part, said it had received numerous complaints against e-tailers and it would probe into the matter.
