The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company is set to challenge the compensatory tariff awarded by the Central electricity regulator for the 4,000 MW Tata Power’s Mundra plant and the 4,620 MW Adani plant.
Sources said the State Government has cleared the utility’s decision to appeal against the tariff hike with the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity.
It is also learnt that the power utilities of Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan either had or are in the process of obtaining clearances to appeal against the regulator’s order.
The power distribution companies are expected to approach the tribunal shortly.
On February 21, the regulator allowed a compensation of ₹329.45 crore for Tata Power’s 4,000 MW Mundra project to compensate for an increase in the price of imported coal for supplies made from April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2013.
In addition, it also awarded a compensatory tariff of ₹0.52 a unit for supplies from April 1, 2013.
Adani Power is to receive a provisional lump sum compensation in respect of Gujarat power purchase agreement (PPA) for ₹420.24 crore and ₹409.51 crore relating to its PPA with Haryana. Gujarat has tied-up for 2,000 MW and Harayana 1,424 MW with the Adani Power’s 4,620 MW plant.
The regulator also allowed a compensatory tariff, to be worked on the basis of a formula, from April 1, 2013.
