ESL Narasimhan, Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, met with the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the developments in the State following the cash-for-vote scam and pressure to consider implementation of Section 8 of the AP Re-organisation Act.

The Governor was summoned by the Union Home Minister to take stock of the recent developments in the State and also issues relating to friction between AP and Telangana. Following recent developments, there has been growing demand to implement Section 8, which empowers the Governor to handle law and order in Hyderabad, the joint capital of both States, for 10 years.

In another development, Telangana’s Telugu Desam Party members met Speaker Madhusudhachary and petitioned him to act on the defectors.

Revanth bail issue The bail petition of A Revanth Reddy, the Telangana TDP MLA accused in the cash-for-vote scam, has been posted for judgement on Tuesday after detailed arguments.

The counsel for Reddy argued that his client has been cooperating with the prosecution in the case and statements of several accused have thus far been recorded and therefore he could be granted bail.

Opposing the bail petition, Ramakrishna Reddy, Telangana Advocate General on behalf of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, said that the investigation in the high profile case was still underway and releasing him on bail would enable him to potentially tamper with evidence.

He further argued that it was necessary that the prosecution get to the roots of the case, including from where ₹4.5 crore was sought to be paid to the nominated member Elvis Stephenson and influence him to vote for TDP candidate.
