Five workers were killed and 11 injured in an explosion on board the ONGC vessel Sagar Bushan docked at Cochin Shipyard for maintenance works. The incident happened at 10.30 am when the water tank of the ONGC vessel exploded.
According to CSL officials, the injured were admitted at the nearby Medical Trust Hospital. All the workers are contract employees assigned for repair and maintenance works.
The fire was put under control by fire tenders of CSL. Further reports are awaited.
