The State Cabinet chaired by Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday nominated Elvis Stephenson as a representative of the Anglo-Indian community in the state.

With this, he has been re-nominated to the Assembly as a representative of the community, having served an earlier term. He was in the news for the controversial cash-for-vote scam in the last term, when he was sought to be wooed during elections to the council.

In a break from the past, the nomination this time has been early, which will allow him to take oath along with other elected MLAs. Normally, such nominations take time.

The Telangana government earlier decided to make Mumtaz Ahmed Khan of the Muslim community the Pro-tem Speaker. A proposal to this effect have been forwarded to the Governor and on receiving his consent, a Gazette notification would be issued.

The state Cabinet placed on record its deep appreciation to the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar for the successful and peaceful conduct of State Assembly Elections. The meeting also placed on record its appreciation to the election machinery.

The Government has decided to provide copies of the Constitution of India, assembly procedures, booklets and other information connected to the Legislature procedure in Telugu, English and Urdu languages to all the MLAs. The State Cabinet is also likely to be expanded soon.
