Banning plastic products in Karnataka is likely to render thousands of people jobless.
“We are apprehensive of the State government’s move,” said Tallam Dwarakanath, President, Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI).
“The government has imposed ban on manufacture, supply, storage and sale of a variety of plastic items which have become essential parts of daily life. The implementation of the ban is feasible only if the government comes out with suitable alternatives to replace these items,” he said.
As the government does not seem to have any proposal in this regard, the ban cannot be effectively implemented and instead, the new regulations would only lead to harassing manufacturers/traders in an ad hoc manner, he added.
