The first monsoon showers in Mumbai disrupted suburban rail traffic, the city’s lifeline on Wednesday.
Heavy rains and water logging at Kurla, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Bhandup on the Central Railway’s main line and Govandi, Chunabhatti on the harbour line led to cancellation of 70 suburban services and late running of trains.
The harbour line was disrupted between 11 a.m. and 1:35 p.m. Locals were running 30-40 minutes late leading to the cancellation of 40 services. Shuttle services were run between Mankhurd and Panvel during this period.
Central Railway’s main line was disrupted between 11:30 a.m. and 2:10 p.m. with locals running late between 15 and 30 minutes leading to 30 services being cancelled.
Services on fast line were running 5 to 15 minutes behind schedule.
